Fun at 4am

So. Awake at 2:45am. That's about four hours of sleep again.

You get to a point where you must entertain yourself somehow.

Either that or eat the rest of the ice cream (which I told my mom is hereby banished from the shopping list). I did a little Amazon window browsing. Checked out soup recipes on allrecipes.com (and my favorite cookie recipe). Watched the weather channel. Did you realize that Momma's Family is showing in re-runs... the hell? Read a few blogs. Watched the Riverdance Dude talk about his "secrets to success" and his bazillion dollars - who knew crazy legs could make so much money. Contemplated buying something off of QVC for like .0005 seconds. Watched Christy Brinkley and Chuck Norris exercise on some weird contraption. Watched some lady cook like 8 pounds of raw bacon in a skillet to put in her chili, bleech. Watched those beyotches make margaritas with the "Magic Bullet." I swear I'm going to Chuys and I am going to drink a damn margarita.

Then decided it was 4am photo time.

My cell phone has these frame things you can use around your pictures. Could that be any cheesier?

I figured I'd celebrate my birthday a few months early, since I'm going to be a cupcake taster for a living and all:

My central line was acting up a bit, so they had to stick my hand at the lab today. How patriotic is it to have matching bruises? God Bless America!

Paris Hilton covets the baggage under my eyes. Who needs Fendi when you have debu_insomnia? I even gift wrapped them with a cute little bow.

The perfect gift for a graduate? Why puffy eyes of course!! Any grad would be super thankful.

Creepy cement face. I want to go back to bed. Can you tell how happy I am to not be sleeping?
cement.jpg

I can do this. I have QVC.

Your assignment today is to try to go to bed early for a change. Enjoy that sleep. No television. No interesting books. Maybe some sleepytime tea. You deserve a good night's sleep.

And for those who have infants and aren't able to get the zzzzz's, I want you to treat yourself to something nice tomorrow. Pedicures are good. A lovely salad with all the works is great too. (what I wouldn't give for some greens!!) And if you want, dessert. Salads are better, but sometimes cranberry bars from Starbucks just kind of hit the spot. (then go for a walk with kiddo).

I love you internets. Enough to post wacked out pictures of myself. And that's a lot. Seriously.

These cookies remind me of my mom. I used to like to eat them warm.

My mom is the best. She has been taking such good care of me. I wish I could do something nice for her.

INGREDIENTS:
- 2 cups white sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup margarine
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 pinch salt
- 1/2 cup chunky peanut butter
- 3 cups quick cooking oats
________________________________________
DIRECTIONS:
1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar, cocoa, milk and margarine. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Boil for 1 minute, then remove from heat and stir in the vanilla, salt, peanut butter and oats.
2. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto waxed paper. Allow cookies to cool for at least 1 hour. Store in an airtight container.

Hi I hope by now your sweetly, sleeping in the world of zzzz's. I should be working but I thought I would check on how you were doing :)Umm I think one of my biggest downfalls stopping me going to bed early is checking out other peoples blogs!!! I promise tonight I'll be in bed at 11 ;) Is the insomnia a side affect of the meds or do you have too much going on in your mind?

Posted by: lynne at April 11, 2006 05:36 AM

Oh the sleepless nights of steroids. Its the drug you love but hate. I only know this because my son has the same sleeplessness when he has to take the dreaded steroids only about 5 time a year.
I love the pics, you are so creative and the recipie sould great.
i hope you get to sleep tonight all through the night.

Thanks for the pictures, Deb. That "cement face" effect is kind of creepy, but kind of cool too. Now I want a cement face picture too. But my phone doesn't DO that, so I have to go see what my graphics program will do for me. Oh, and thanks for the reminder to get to bed early. My husband will thank you too, because I have been staying up later and later these days. Not good.

Look after yourself. I think ice cream is healthier than a margarita, but I haven't analyzed it in great detail. I'm still voting for the ice cream for you. Don't banish the ice cream, Deb! ;-)

please tell me you didn't actually watch mama's family.

magic bullet sounds like it should be a sex toy

creepy cement face is seriously creepy. gah!

I knew it! I knew those geeks at the Weather Channel didn't do weather ALL THE TIME. They couldn't. I mean how boring would that be?

And now I have proof...you caught them showing Momma's Family. Not to disparage the comedic genius that is Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawerence and Ken Berry... but that ain't the weather.......hmmm, maybe I read that wrong.

Anyway, try to get some sleep. And please know that you are still in my prayers.

OMG-"this" was so damn funny. Yo I assume you
have told the doctors you can't sleep. You should
ask them about some kind of sleeping pill you
doofus.

Now your Mom-you are giving her the best gift
in the world. Getting better, I am sure your
Mom thinks that is the best present ever.

Give her extra hugs and kisses. Those are the
best kind of gift my kids can give me. Oh and
if they tell me I am the best MOM-hell's bells
I could boo-hoo. Ya know for me the best gifts
don't cost $$$$$$$. I would rather have I love
you's, and hugs.

Bwahahahahahaha over those pictures. They are
tremendous.

You should so write a book QUEEN OF THE UNIVERSE.

Love,
Shoshie

Deb, love you right back.

I hope sleep comes for you soon. Mama's Family is a fate worse than insomnia.

I kinda like that cement face effect, too.

Posted by: Squirl at April 11, 2006 10:19 AM

We do love you right back, Deb! No-Bake Chocolate PB Cookies are the bomb -- I'm going to make them today because you've got me craving some now. My seester Shoshie is right (again), the best present my kids give me is a picture of them, or a picture/craft they make, or a spontaneous hug and "I love you, mom." Give her the cement face in a frame -- she'll hang it on her refrigerator and you guys will laugh here in a few weeks when you see how far you've come. Laughing is a very, very good gift. This is why Shoshie is a miracle worker: she makes us laugh.

I love all of those!!

And I love that sleepytime tea. Valerian is my friend.

Posted by: Kami at April 11, 2006 11:22 AM

Heck I am up in the middle of the night--we could start a chat for insomniacs or something. I usually surf blogs too.

I heart creepy cement faces so rock on! And yes, the cell phone photo frame things are weird. It is really nice to read an entry that is funny and weird and silly. Things change so fast, you know? I am very happy for you and Z and I hope you pass out for like 12 hours sometime real soon! (and i hope that you do not dream about clowns or circuses or brad pitt making you drink scotch and sodas. i had that one once. but it's cause i read too many tabloids.)

Posted by: anonymous at April 11, 2006 01:20 PM

I kind of like the creepy cement face. My phone doesn't do anything cool like that. Not that I could figure it our....
I want a salad, too. Or a medium-rare burger with all the trimmings. Or some sushi...

Hi Deb,
I am sorry you can't sleep, but your lack of
sleep makes for a very funny post. I came in
with my husband and children for Passover. We
are staying with Shoshie. 7 kids in one house,
this will be fun. Shoshie might sell her kids,
she put them on our web page, stop by if you
want to buy one.

Your Mother has to love taking care of you
and helping you. 99% of Mothers would consider
helping their children at any age an honor.

You have a wonderful spirit Deb, and nobody
can ever take that away from you.

Love,
Lisabeth

(Grace my daughter who is Zoe's age is looking
at your pictures-she wants me to color with her
now and make "fun picture like the Queen".)

Damn you and your sweetness. Those cookies are going to have to wait a while.

Posted by: mrtl at April 11, 2006 09:06 PM

Mama's Family is the show to watch at that time in the morning. Loved the one where they were having a chili contest...good times. ;o)
Zoe is a blogger like her mommy now, I see.
So sweet!
Allrecipes.com is my favorite place to get recipes. They have this sour cream banana bread that is absolutely wonderful with a little butter...*drool* but I digress.
I will get some sleep in your honor, as long as you don't mind if I snore. LOL

Posted by: M_D at April 11, 2006 11:05 PM

Deb,
Your probably asleep right now and that's good. It's 6:14 here in the islands. The stuff you see at 2:00 on some of the cable is our primetime viewing. Well not exactly. Only on the secondary channels. Have you tried A&E might be conducive to sleep depending on the program and narrator

I think you look beautiful in your pix. Though I as Aunt Ikie would say " I'm prejudiced."

Zoe is blogging. I love all the little hugs & kisses for her mommy.

When you do get out for a Marg a hope you get more than than the amount you can make in the Magic Bullet. Looks a bit like a coffee grinder to me.

Aloha,
EV
