3am

Weird new sleeping pattern. In bed asleep by like 9:30. Then I wake up at 2 or 3am and I'm wide awake. This is fun.

Zoe is here, so I haven't been on my computer much. She is just so damn funny. For dinner she wanted a hot dog. With the bun on the side.

It was awesome to have 3 days off from the clinic. I still had to do the IV stuff, but it was nice to just be able to chill out here and do it. I actually went to see a movie on Friday, Prairie Home Companion. It was goofy, very Robert Altman-ish, and if you don't like PHC, you wouldn't really "get" it. But we had a great time anyway.

I'm feeling ok. Still really tired and low energy. Zoe and I play lots of cards. Besides, it's like nearly 100 degrees outside, so we can't go do much. All the indoor places will have a zillion kids - not a good place for the immune suppressed. I have to say, Zoe is a card shark. She's competitive and kicks my butt. She got a really good report card. I was super happy about that.

Zoe also loves to swim. She's able to do a little doggy paddle. But she spent over an hour saying, "Mommy, watch this," while she did headstands and cannonballs and asked me to count how long she was underwater. When it didn't seem like that long, she said, "count faster." She is a ball of energy, and really lives up to her name, which means full of life. I have missed her so much. She will be here all week and then next weekend flies to her dad's for six weeks. That is just way too long, but she really loves to go there.

I am watching a commercial with a salad on it. I swear I'm going to break down and eat one. They told me that I can't have anything fresh until I'm off the steroids. Which won't be anytime soon. I just want some lettuce. Anything. They look so dang good.

Ok. This is sad that even though I have my head down, I can recognize the commercials without even looking up. I think I'm watching way too much television.

It's nearly 4am. I guess I should really try to get back to sleep.

I can do this. I just need to turn off the tv.

I can't think of an assignment right now. I'll be back.

Are you allowed cooked veggies? We used to buy broccoli and asparagus and lightly steam it...cooked enough to satisfy the transplant docs...but it was still green and crunchy enough to satisfy the craving for a veggie.

I'm so glad that you had an enjoyable weekend with your Zoe...

Oh!
Maybe Amanda has something there with the steamed veggies -- maybe you could put dressing on them and feel like you had a salad...
now my wheels are turning -
what about bok choy? it tastes lettucy but you could have it cooked in some udon soup?

It's amazing how LITTLE tv one can watch and still know the commercials - they play the same ones over and over. I like the Jell-o ones right now.
So when you see the wiggle/giggle dance think of me and I'll think of you.

ah, the TV. it is my nemesis late at night, too. ;) glad to see you're feeling excited about the salad, i'd like to take that as a sign your body's gearing up to be kickass!

Bun on the side? Yes, that would be the influence of my children at work. They don't eat hardly anything in a normal way.

Hi Deb! Get some rest. :)
Hugs to you!

I LOVE the bun on the side comment! My children eat alot of things differently as well. : ) They eat pizza backwards for heaven's sake! I'm glad you've got your girlie with you this week. Sometimes for trouble sleeping, doing some very deep diaphramatic (sp?) breathing until you feel a bit light headed helps tremendously. Just a thought. MWAH!

My 16-year old still likes her marinara sauce on the side, pasta with olive oil and parmesan only. Alfredo sauce is different.

I still don't want any beets on my plate. That red juice could spread onto the other foods and then they would be contaminated by beets.....shudder...

HI Deb,
It sure is great hearing all of your wonderful news. I love hearing how Zoe loves to swim and do cannonballs. My Jonathan, age 5, also wears me out saying, "Momma, watch this and see how big the splash was?". I get tired just watching him jump in paddle to the side, get out, run to the edge and jump again! AAAHHHH!! The joys of summer vacation.

"Count faster!" ROFLMAO!!! She is funny!

Hi,

Hmmmmmm. Zoe's a Card Shark you say? Sounds a little like Grandma G. Cept, Grandma would sometimes cheat at cribbage. Glad Zoe like the water. It helps to run down that little battery inside that wants to keep going and going and...

I know what you mean about cravings. It's always what you can't have or what is not available that we crave the most.

Have you seen the gadget from The Sharper Image called the Lotus? It supposedly turns tap water into a powerful disinfectant and anti pesticide food sanitizer. If your Docs approve I would get one. Then you could have the fresh summer produce you body is craving.

Some commercials are good. I like the Citi bank ID theft commercials best. Shoooot!

Love,
EV

Aw, those are some really cute stories about Zoe. I'm so glad you get to spend time with her before she goes on summer vacation. The card shark and "count faster" stories made me laugh. Do you like bok choy? I used to get cravings for it all the time. Stir fried, just by itself. I haven't had it in a long time but Blackbird's comment just reminded me of it again.

Thrilled you have quality Zoe time. Zoe has great
healing powers. Not to mention her quirky no bun with her hot dog.

A hot dog with a bun on the side. It sounds to me like she and Nik are a match. :)

Yes, it's too hot to do ANYTHING out of doors.

Loving the "bun on the side" and "count faster." She is delightful company :)

Stories like this remind me of what a professor, father of 8 (or was it 12?) told me, in a class on family therapy: What children want most of all is to be enjoyed. I think that is so true. Miss Zoe truly is enjoyed. And blessed.

That girl's got her mama's sense of humor, I think! Enjoy the time together!!

So glad to hear that you are doing so well and that you have Zoe with you.

The last time I came by your blog was in March or something and you were saying you were goign to quit. I was so amazed at you and your journey that I linked to you in a post on my blog. I keep meaning to check back in and then I forget. It is so weird cause I will be getting in bed and I think, "Oh rats I didn't check that girl's blog today." But I am too tired, cause it is usually way past midnight, that I say I will check it tomorrow and then of course I forget.

Anyway, that all to say that I am just checking in and seeing how you are doing. It seems much better than a few months ago! I am so glad :)
