I just ate....

A banana and some strawberries and tonight I'm having a
BIG OLD SALAD!!!
I have been off the bad steroids for a week now with no ill side effects (yeah, knock on wood there), so my doctor cleared me to eat fresh fruits and veggies (at home only).
So I hit the Market to the gods, HEB Central Market. It was AWESOME. It was like the vegetables were calling out to me.
I don't think I've been this excited since Zoe was born.
Ok. Time to make the salad. I think I'm going to have salad for breakfast.
I can do this. I have greens on my side.
Today your assignment is an oldie but a goodie. Eat more veggies. Try really hard this week to get all of your servings of fruits and veggies. Try to include them as snacks, and at least one or two with every meal. Vegalcious. I'm so excited it's not funny.
As the Wiggles would sing -
"Fruit salad - -
Yummy, yummy
Fruit salad - -
Yummy, yummy."

Just in time. Right on !!!!! I'm so happy for you. I'll bet they have never tasted better. Fresh berries. Ensalada. Woooooohooooo!
Lately I have been fixated on sugar snap peas while working at my desk. They have a satisfying crunch and they are a nice alternative to candy.
Hallelujah!

Hooray for veggies!
I'll never forget what my oncologist told me (almost 5 years ago now!). He said I couldn't have salad in a restaurant during treatment because "I don't want some yahoo in the kitchen giving you hepatitis because he didn't wash his hands."
I just finished dinner, but I think now I'll eat the leftover peas instead of throwing them away.
Posted by: Sharkey at June 26, 2006 06:23 PMYay for salad!!!

I just love the title of this post! (The content is good too.)
Strawberries, yum!
Posted by: Karen at June 26, 2006 09:15 PMYeah for fruit and salad I love this time of year. Strawberries, blueberries, peaches, salad!
Enjoy!
Wonderful! Once again, it's the stuff we take for granted most of our lives that becomes so important and brings such joy when it's been lost and finally returned. I am very happy for you and your tastebuds.
Posted by: SilverC at June 26, 2006 11:34 PMOh glorious day, Deb!!! I bet you are dreaming of veggies, in veggie wonderland, right now. I ate lots of lima beans tonight but I'm not sure they count as much when they've got margarine on them. :)
Posted by: Bren / Cody'sMom at June 27, 2006 12:27 AMI was at the grocery store today and the same strawberries were calling to me! I love veggies, salad, etc. and can eat them any time of the day. So happy to hear you can eat them again as I know this was a day you were waiting for!
Jnet
Strawberries, apples, cherries, watermelon, and
the list goes on. You can eat all those super
good foods now and celebrate your road to recovery.
The Holy Temple of Freshness has to be one of your
best lines.

You're doing it!
Posted by: CircusKelli at June 27, 2006 08:12 AMEvery day I drop by to do a couple of things -check up on you and your progress and to get a perspective realignment.
Learning you've taken the sweet summer taste of strawberries for granted is sort of a humbling experience. I'm just thankful you are able to enjoy them so much. God Bless you.
Posted by: Patrick at June 27, 2006 08:23 AMI am so happy for you. On vacation, I will try to have a salad a day in your honor.
Posted by: Missy at June 27, 2006 10:27 AMI can't have those beauties yet. Our garden is overflowing with tomatos, my son can't keep up with them. They are so delicious, warm off the vine.... Oh, when I am allowed to eat raw strawberries and tomatos and apples....it will happen.
Posted by: laurel at June 27, 2006 01:32 PMOh those look so good! May have to go out and get some...I like mixing them with blueberries and raspberries!
Posted by: Lauri at June 27, 2006 03:36 PMYEAH!!
Funny, as i'm typing i'm eating clemtines, and last night Phil and I went to a fresh market place and bought lots of yummy fresh veggies and fruits. We also planted several veggies and herbs in a little garden. Nothing like picking and eating food you actually grew!
I am so excited for you. Keep up the good work and healing.
Love,
Dawn

Posted by: Lisa O at June 28, 2006 10:16 AMI LOVE that central market. Isn't it the greatest? And I don't think the prices there are as bad as at Whole Foods.
Maybe next I can get you to go to the organic farmer's market in Greenway Plaza? It's on Saturday 8am to noon and Wednesday from 4pm-7pm. I LOVE it. The organic coffee guy will be my next boyfriend (hahahaha).
Posted by: Shell at June 29, 2006 07:53 PMOMG how did I miss this post?
