Starbucks, Take Me Away

You know you won't be having a good day when it starts off like this:

Coffee. Everywhere.

pleh coffee.jpg

It's chilly outside. I take Zoester to school and come home, ready to make some yummy coffee and an egg white omelet.

I have to pee really bad. But I wanted to get my coffee on first.

1. Insert filter and my yummy chocolate coffee.

2. Fill up machine with 8 cups of water.

3. Put the pot on and hit the "ON" button.

Run to the can and pee. Decide to check email. Takes me about ten minutes.

Which one of the three easy steps do you think I forgot?

PUT THE POT ON.

I forgot to put the pot on and it held the drip for a little while, but then it started overflowing. And overflowing. And overflowing. Coffee and coffee grounds everywhere. Like a coffee explosion. A coffee volcano. A coffee fiasco.

I killed poor little Mr. Coffee. * Le Sigh*. I'm in mourning.

I can do this. I may have to go to Sixbucks once in a while, but I can do this.

Your assignment today is to recommend a good coffee pot. 10 cups minimum. Preferably with a timer. I need to get another one for my folks. The backup one they have is crap. We are serious about coffee at casa_debu.

Love. Love you. Love you Elvis.

Hi there Deb!
We have a Bunn coffeemaker and we just love it. No need for a timer, because it features a resevoir (sp) of hot water that is always at the ready. It takes about 3 minutes to brew a fabulous pot of coffee. It took some getting used to, but now we wouldn't use anything else!
Hope this helps!

OMG that is not good. My mom has a great coffee maker that we got her for Christmas 2005. It grids the beans and makes it all in one. I don'tknow the name but we got it at target and it is black.

I have never had a coffee maker do that on me!

I am no help. I have a Krups which I hate. I should replace it but it's only six months old.

It's one of those insulted thermos types which
holds 10 cups-but me no like. The stuff is never really that hot.

We have a Black & Decker P.O.S. 'Thermal Select'. I mean, it looked so sleek with it's ebony housing gently cradling the chrome thermos while it quietly brewed our personal paradise.

But there is trouble in paradise. Namely the little peep-hole in the back of the tank. WTH? But we can adapt; we pour and watch carefully (even though at 5'& 2.75" I tiptoe to be tall enough to see back there) so we don't attempt to get the full 8 cups of agua in there lest we have a little lake.

Then, there is the "Put the pot on" catastrophe waiting to happen and remind you why incontinence and food prep just don't mix. Been there, done that. Hubby was mega-ticked when he smelled the aroma of paradise calling him to come partake only to find that not only was there insufficient java to pour into a cup but there was that damned coffee volcano crap to clean up. I do suppose he could've pushed a couple of gulps into a cup off of the counter to take the edge off his ire...

Get the Bunn. Hubby's sis has one and it is truly the shizzle.

Cuisinart...only way to go! I had a coffee pot (don't remember the brand) that would do that if the pot wasn't the slightest bit out of place. What a mess! I love the Cuisinart though which has a timer, etc. and it even tells you when it is time to clean it with vinegar. It turns off after one hour which is another feature that I like. That's my opinion!

A lady I work with has the Bunn like Rebecca described and she loves it.

I have a little four cup Mr. Coffee from Wally World and I like it. It has a timer. There's nothing more wonderful than waking up to the smell of coffee brewing.

I got my Boyfriend a grinder/timer combo from Target a couple of years ago and he loves it. I think the name started with an L? I can't remember. It grinds really loud...great alarm clock.

they're pretty spendy, but we love the capresso machines. sorry about mr. coffee's demise. xomox

Glad to know I'm not the only one who has ever experienced a coffee volcano. Do coffee grounds multiply like Easter grass and tinsel at Christmas? Seems like waaay more coffee once it's a volcano than I put in there in the first place!

I agree, Cuisinart is the way to go for a new one.

Aloha,

I am have just about tried them all. We go through alot of coffee. Not so much here as we did in Seattle but I digress.

I had a cuisinart that ground and brew and a couple of times the coffee overflowed like your did. Think the basket wasn't closed all the way.
The heat element burned out after 2 years.

I now have a Mr Coffee which is ok. My daughter picked it up for us at Walmart and she doesn't have much money. Bless her.

If I had a choice I would go with a Bunn. Besides it's the one so many restaurants choose to brew regular joe for the masses. You guys deserve to have the best.

Aloha,

EV

I would take a Gevalia offer and get a freebie. They always have magnificient coffeemakers. Just cancel the coffee after your first delivery. You can even cancel online.

Deb,

I also have a cuisinart and I like it a great deal. Here is IP an address to the product description: http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=3527369&JRSource=nsa&nsa=1

Programmable timer, grinds your coffee fresh or allows preground coffee, a small pot (1-4) setting, thermos-style pot that doesn't keep "ccoking" the coffee on a burner, optional gold cone filter and a built-in water filter.

But there are drawbacks...it's more expensive that a Mr. Coffee, it does require that you clean the grinding chamber after 1-3 grinds since the oils in the coffee cause some of the finely ground coffee to clump and cling to the walls. You also have some minor recurring costs for filter cartridges. And it has in one instance overflowed when one of the doors wasn't closed.

But day in day out, pretty good product.

No help one the coffee front, but I find it hilarious that my coffee maker died yesterday. It just stopped pumping after a cup or so of water went through. I'm sad.
