Thanks Mom Marrow Donor Drive - May 7 - 21

Sign up. It's free. And painless. And most likely no one will ever call you. But you can't win if you don't play. And you could be that only person's hope. For life. I bet their mom would thank you. Or make you a pie.

Don't be chicken. Or I'll make fun of you.

Starting May 7th the National Marrow Donor Program is typing people for free!

In an effort to help all patients in need, the National Marrow Donor Program kicks off its national Thanks Mom Marrow Donor Drive on Monday, May 7, with a goal of adding 20,000 new donors to the National Marrow Donor Program Registry in two weeks. Thanks Mom will run May 7-21 and sponsor free marrow donor drives online at marrow.org and in more than 350 cities nationwide.

Anyone between the ages of 18 and 60, in good health and willing to help any patient is eligible to join, free of charge, from May 7 - 21, at a donor drive in their city or by registering online.

You couldn't give a better gift to your MOM or in her memory. I registered about 6 months ago. Its painless and a kit was sent to my home. I carry my donor card with pride hoping someday to make a difference. If everyone registered the donor pool would give so much hope to so many people.

YES! PLEASE- sign up. It's easy, painless and FREE. I did it back in the "Dark Ages" when they drew blood. Now it's just a simple cheek scraping. DO IT!

I hope Zoe's feeling better.

Thanks for posting this! I put it on my journal, emailed all of my local television stations and I'm trying to get it announced at work. If they only announce it locally, it's about 2000 people, but I'm hoping they'll list it on the corporate website so it may reach all 26,000 employees.

Yo Deb,

I talked to someone with the registry about this and for those of us who have been tested privately, we can have those results transferred to the registry by: 1. Obtaining what our results are; 2. Filling out some paper work. Could you get that result information for us from MDA?

I registered a few years ago as an undergrad at Princeton. A local boy needed a transplant and the entire community was mobilized during a massive drive. They found a match, and several thousand people were typed!
