Neither does anyone else.
Probably because we are drowning in Pink as it's pre-October.
I wish they would just outright donate the money instead of playing the charade of ___% of the profits. It's such a farce to purchase a $20 item when $2 of the profit goes to breast cancer research.
So next month, I will make a donation somewhere for breast cancer. And i will refuse to purchase anything pink for October.
This month, I will ramp up my donation fundraising for the Leukemia Society. And I will ask for you all to help spread the word about Leukemia. Maybe point people my direction. I think I will blog a post a day and dedicate it to an issue people with leukemia deal with.
Until then. This is our month. Sad no one will really know it.
Posted by debutaunt at September 7, 2007 09:02 PMSome of us know this because we subscribe to the newsletter that the L/L society puts out. It's free, and it is informative. Ways folks can give without
spending money.
Even as a breast cancer survivor, I think the pink is a little overboard at times. It's become such a racket--companies use it as a marketing tool instead of as a way to give back.
I sometimes struggle with the advocacy thing--I'm so, so, SO thankful that money has been spent on breast cancer research. I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for that. But you're exactly right--it does tend to overshadow other types of cancer that are worthy of attention and funding.
Posted by: Sharkey at September 7, 2007 10:38 PMI know it... And I'm Lighting the Night next week in Anaheim...
Posted by: shayna at September 8, 2007 01:14 AMI didn't know it, but I know it now, and I will spread the word!!!
Posted by: nathalie at September 8, 2007 09:47 AMYou know... I shouldn't say this... since I have a family history of BC and I am a woman... but I cringe everytime I hear the breast cancer awareness events, sales, etc...
Sure, its great that they are helping BC, and yes, it affects so many...
But where is the support for Leukemia? Where is the support for Childhood Cancer (september is awareness month)... BC has become a year round thing, thousands of companies have products that support it.. but very very little to help leukemia, childhood cancer, and so many other issues... UGH!! If only these people would see how important the other cancers are...

Posted by: Sandra at September 9, 2007 02:45 AMdid you know that November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month? neither does anyone else. probably because it's post-October and we are *still* drowning in Pink.
i don't care if our hooters, knockers, headlights, boobs, tits are more noticeable or not. breast cancer gets all the attention and lung cancer kills more women every year than breast, ovarian and uterine cancer COMBINED.
i don't know nuthin' 'bout leukemia stats but I do know that I *feel* your pain about the attention focused where it is.
thinking of you.
Posted by: traci at September 9, 2007 10:23 PMI can feel your pain, but as bad as it is, at least you have treatment. Lupus patients have had no new meds in over 40 years.
And did you know...there are more people in the US that have Lupus than have AIDS, cystic fibrosis, multiple sclerosis, sickle cell anemia, and cerebal palsy combined?
...just something to think about...
Posted by: Tonia at September 14, 2007 07:51 PMI too am frustrated with so little attention towards raising money for a cure for leukemia and other cancers. My mother recently lost her battle with AML. I for one am doing my part to think ORANGE and not pink. My family and I are doing the Light the Night walk and will raise money year round for the Leukemia Society. However I still will buy pink to support others and hope that they would buy orange if the option is there.
